Bill & Karen’s Home
Poker Tourneys Welcome to our home poker
tourney page. This is where you’ll find all the information about the home
games we run. If you’re a friend who’s already played in our group, then you
probably already know most of this stuff- this is mainly for the newbies. We host these primarily to
have fun and socialize with our friends. We’ve averaged about one a month
over the past year, and the largest we’ve had so far has been 24 people. I
think I better finish up that next table! J We allow (and encourage)
social drinking at our tourneys but you must be 21 to drink (and 18 to play).
Please do not get too sloshed to behave properly. And we will not let you
drive away intoxicated. We have plenty of floor space (if you’re drunk you
won’t care if you’re sleeping on the floor), or we can call you a cab. (You
CAB!) Oh, and no swimming drunk. We have a non-smoking house, but you are
welcome to fire up your smokes out on the porch with Tammy. All we ask is
that folks bring their fair share of munchies, drinks, etc. We don’t have a ton of rules,
but what we do use is pretty much standard etiquette in casinos and poker
tourneys. Since the tourneys have
gotten larger, we usually only play one in a given night. Often, we will have
a cash ring game (such as 50¢/$1.00 limit) start up as people drop out of the
tourney. The tourneys typically run around 4 ½- 5 hours. New- Check out the info on
our Poker League! We have several tourney
configurations which we play. Our
standard starting chip count is 185 (T185) in the following denominations: $1 (white) – 10 $5 (red) – 10 $25 (green) – 5 Single Add-on
Tournament $15 buy-in (T185) This is the most common
structure that we run and is the format we use for sanctioned league events.
One $15 re-buy (T185) available, any time up to the start of level 5,
regardless of chip count. From each buy-in, $12 is
allocated to the prize pool, $1 goes to the high hand pot, and $2 goes
towards the championship prize pool. The re-buy fees are allocated the same
way. Multiple Re-buy
Tournament $12 buy-in (T185) Unlimited $5 re-buys
(T185) available, any time up to the start of level 5, if you are at zero
chips. One $5 add-on (T185) available at the break between level 4 & 5,
regardless of chip count. The prize pool is
comprised of all add-on & re-buy money, plus $10 of each player’s buy-in.
The other $2/player goes into the high hand pot. No Re-buy Tournament $15 buy-in (T185) No re-buys. Prize pool is
$10 per player. The other $5 per player is to purchase a ‘knockout token’. If
a player is all in, they also put one KO token into the pot. Tokens are
cashed in for $5 each after the tourney. Whack-a-Mole nite Occasionally we’ll
designate a tourney to be Whack-a-Mole nite. We set aside $1 or $2 from each
buy-in to make up the “Mole Money”. Each player will draw from a bag of chips
at the start of the tourney. All the chips are identical except for one.
Whichever player draws that chip is the Mole, and whoever knocks out the Mole
wins the Mole money. No one knows what chip anyone draws- ie, you hide your
chip when you draw it, so the only person who knows who the Mole is, is the
Mole himself. As each player is knocked out, they reveal their secret chip to
show if they were the Mole. If the Mole wins the tourney, he/she wins the
Mole Money. Prize pool: based on # of
entries as follows:
The blinds schedule was
tweaked for 2006, to make it slightly less aggressive.
2005 Blinds: 1 – 2 (20mins) 2 – 4 (20mins) 4 – 8 (20mins) 7 – 15 (20mins) Break (color up whites) 10 – 20 (15mins) 20 – 40 (15mins) 40 – 80 (15mins) 75 – 150 (15mins) (color
up reds) 100 – 200 (10mins) 200 – 400 (10mins) 300 – 600 (10mins) 500 – 1000 (10mins) Doubles every 10 minutes
after level 12 We use The Tournament Director
software to run our tournaments. I highly recommend it. Is this illegal? No. Our home tourneys are
not raked, and we do not ask for nor accept ‘donations’ (although we do ask
everyone to byob and some food to share). Unraked home poker games are not a
violation of the |
